All wilderness trailheads are open and accessible by vehicle. Clear Creek Trailhead requires a moderate to high-clearance vehicle (road work in progress). The Everitt Memorial Highway is open to Bunny Flat (6,950 ft); the gate at Bunny Flat limits vehicle access beyond that point — the last 3 miles to Old Ski Bowl are open on foot or bike only, with the gate targeted to open to vehicles in mid-June (check locally for current status). The Sierra Club Alpine Hut (Horse Camp) is open with water and composting toilets. Panther Meadows campground remains closed while crews clear snow and prep for the season. Rockfall is active even in early morning hours — wear a helmet and descend early. Wet loose avalanche hazard exists in the afternoon; travel before noon and exit avalanche terrain early. Snowline is around 9,200 ft in Avalanche Gulch.
Open. The Lassen Volcanic Park Highway (CA 89) opened to vehicles for the 2026 season on May 22, 2026 — one of the earlier openings in recent memory thanks to a below-average snowpack. Popular stops are accessible including Summit Lake, Kings Creek Falls, and the Devastated Area. The Bumpass Hell Trail remains closed due to snow (seasonal closure, typically through mid-July). The Juniper Lake road is closed indefinitely for road repairs.
Open. SR 4/Ebbetts Pass is open. A Memorial Day storm briefly closed the pass on May 25, 2026; Caltrans reopened it at 2:30 pm on May 29 after crews confirmed safe travel conditions. Watch for icy surfaces at high elevation in early morning hours. A construction-related one-way control is in effect on the valley section of SR 4 near the Contra Costa/San Joaquin County line, unrelated to the pass.
Open. SR 108/Sonora Pass opened for the 2026 season on April 30, 2026 — ahead of the usual Memorial Day target. A Memorial Day storm briefly closed the pass on May 25, 2026; Caltrans announced the pass reopened at noon on May 29. A construction-related 1-way traffic control that was active through June 8 east of Dardanelle has ended. No current restrictions reported.
Open. Tioga Road (SR 120) opened to all traffic on May 15, 2026 at 8 am. Limited services available along the road; vault and portable toilets are available but no drinking water yet.
Open. Upper Rock Creek Road is open to Mosquito Flat. As of 5/18/26, the top section between Mosquito Flat and the pack station was still closed due to snow; given mid-June conditions, this section has likely cleared — confirm at trailhead.
CA 168 above Aspendell is open all the way to Lake Sabrina. North Lake Road is open to the Day Use Parking Lot. South Lake Road is open to the lake.
