Open. All wilderness trailheads are accessible. The Everitt Memorial Highway is fully open to the Old Ski Bowl. Summer trail from Bunny Flat to Horse Camp is melted out. Panther Meadows campground is open. Expect mild to warm temperatures through the holiday weekend — watch for stronger winds Sunday and a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms. Rockfall is an increasing hazard as snowmelt exposes more rock; a climber took a 1,500-foot fall in Avalanche Gulch earlier this week requiring rescue — exercise extra caution on all routes. All routes require an ice axe, crampons, and helmet. Climbing conditions are decent but fading into July.
Open. The Lassen Volcanic Park Highway (CA 89) opened to vehicles for the 2026 season on May 22, 2026 — one of the earlier openings in recent memory thanks to a below-average snowpack. All sections of the highway are fully open to vehicles. Popular stops are accessible including Summit Lake, Kings Creek Falls, and the Devastated Area. The Bumpass Hell Trail remains closed due to snow (seasonal closure, typically through mid-July). The Juniper Lake road is closed indefinitely for road repairs.
Open. SR 4/Ebbetts Pass is open. A Memorial Day storm briefly closed the pass on May 25, 2026; Caltrans reopened it at 2:30 pm on May 29. A construction-related one-way control is in effect on the valley section of SR 4 near the Contra Costa/San Joaquin County line (Old River Bridge), unrelated to the pass, through July 26, 2026.
Open. SR 108/Sonora Pass opened for the 2026 season on April 30, 2026 — ahead of the usual Memorial Day target. A Memorial Day storm briefly closed the pass on May 25, 2026; Caltrans announced the pass reopened at noon on May 29. No current restrictions reported.
Open. Tioga Road (SR 120) opened to all traffic on May 15, 2026 at 8 am. Limited services were available at opening; vault and portable toilets are available along the road.
Open to Mosquito Flat. The top section near Mosquito Flat, which was still closed due to snow as of mid-May, has since cleared. Recent visitor reports confirm hikers are accessing the Mosquito Flat trailhead.
CA 168 above Aspendell is open all the way to Lake Sabrina. North Lake Road is open to the Day Use Parking Lot. South Lake Road is open to the lake. Note: Utility work on SR 168 near Aspendell (Reservoir Road to Big Trees Road) may be causing 1-way traffic control with up to 5-minute delays, Monday–Friday 8 am–4 pm.
