California Road Status for Backcountry Access

Bunny Flat is the only accessible trailhead, currently.

As of 5/15/24 (the latest update on trailhead access from MSAC):
Bunny Flat- Accessible via car.
Brewer Creek: 10 miles of snow on road to trailhead
Clear Creek: 4 miles of snow on road to trailhead
Northgate: 1.3 miles of snow on road to trailhead
You can use these trailheads if you can get to them. Make sure you're aware of Shasta's rules for summit passes, wilderness permits and wagbags..

The road on the north is now open to vehicles up to the devastated area! From the south the road is plowed to Emerald Sidehill, just short of Emerald Lake, and is open to vehicles up to Sulphur works. Lots of progress in the last couple days!

Ebbetts Pass is officially open! Get it! Shout out to Cutthroat Brewery in Markleeville.

We have local confirmation that the road is open to Mono Village

The Mono County Roads page says is the road is OPEN!.

Caltrans is opening the pass on 5/16 at 3pm!

A great graph in the Southern California Backcountry FB group (private) predicts June 3 +/- 11 days. A wide range but neat none the less.

Maintenance crews from Lee Vining have reached the eastern entrance of Yosemite National Park on State Route 120 W.

From the west crews are working through the Olmsted Point avalanche zone, about 30 miles from the Crane Flat gate.

‍Tioga Road is typically open to vehicles from late May or June until sometime in November. Plowing typically begins around April 15.In some years, Tioga Road opens to cycling one or more days before opening to vehicles. If this occurs in 2024, we'll provide that information here.."
